2008 Programme

OFFLOAD with The Emerald Ensemble Part of ElektroStatic

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

Continuing the OFFLOAD ‘Systems for Survival’ Programme, we are presenting a concert at the Colston Hall, Bristol as part of the ElektroStatic event.

This concert continues our exploration into systems based music in relation to the core OFFLOAD themes – survival, play, trade and networks.

OFFLOAD with The Emerald Ensemble Part of ElektroStatic – The Emerald Ensemble’s New Music Series New Routes will combine surround-sound electronics, virtuosic instrumental playing, audience interaction, automated sound-making machines, performance art and video. Artists, composers and performers will respond to themes of migration, networks, mapping and the imaginative re-use of existing music to create fresh new work. OFFLOAD is a multi-disciplinary programme of work put together by Bristol-based collective Polar Produce.Programme to include works by Matthew Olden (I am the Mighty Jungulator), Richard Barnard, Zoe Irvine and the Magnetic Migration Music project, James Saunders, Kathy Hinde, Austin Sherlaw-Johnson, plus alternative performances of Ligeti’s Six Bagatelles for Wind Quintet, Bach and Purcell.

This concert is part of Colston Hall’s ElektroStatic bar series – a series of four concerts featuring Bristol’s premier professional chamber group The Emerald Ensemble. In each concert, players collaborate with pioneering artists at the cutting edge of musical innovation. Come along to encounter unique sonic and visual experiences, world premieres and rarely heard classics of the avant-garde.
